The series primarily focuses on two groups: the Seven, Vought's premier superhero team, and the eponymous Boys, vigilantes looking to bring down Vought and its corrupt superheroes.
Outside of their heroic personas, most are arrogant and corrupt. The Boys is set in a universe where superpowered individuals are recognized as heroes by the general public and work for the powerful corporation Vought International, which markets and monetizes them. Two spin-off shows were ordered in September 2020 and December 2021, the latter of which, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, premiered in March 2022. The series has received critical acclaim for its writing, storyline, humor, and the performances of the cast, particularly Urban and Starr. Ahead of the second season premiere, the series was renewed for a third season in July 2020, which is scheduled to be released on June 3, 2022. The first season premiered on July 26, 2019. Usher, and Nathan Mitchell as members of "the Seven", an official superhero group run by the conglomerate Vought International who, while maintaining a lofty façade, are shallow celebrity figures prone to doing horrendous things in secret. The series stars an ensemble cast that includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capon, and Karen Fukuhara as the vigilantes and Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under its Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities. Recurring themes include Stan's desire to see Steve mature properly, Roger's desires to establish a life outside of the house, Francine's desire of breaking out of an overly structured lifestyle, Hayley's desire to rebel against her father's politics and Steve's desire to finally become one of the cool kids and "get some boob." Stan's conservatism is treated as buffoonish and self-abnegating on its face.The Boys is an American superhero television series developed by Eric Kripke for the streaming service Amazon Prime Video. Plots generally center on the misadventures of various family members in their respective realms. The town name is a composite of Langley and Great Falls, two unincorporated communities located in Fairfax County. The Smith Family resides on 43 Cherry Street in the fictional community of Langley Falls, Virginia in the Washington, D.C. The Smith family is also in possession of two bizarre nonhumans - Roger, an escaped alien from Area 51 whom Stan is covertly housing in defiance of his employer, and Klaus, an anthropomorphic goldfish whom the CIA implanted with the brain of an East German Olympic ski jumper. Their two children are Hayley, a passionately liberal college-aged activist, and Steve, a nerdy, wimpy high schooler who constantly attempts to live up to Stan's expectations. He is married to Francine Smith, a ditzy housewife who is trying to make up for a wild youth. American Dad! centers on the domestic life of its nominal title character, Stan Smith, a staunchly conservative Republican CIA agent and self-proclaimed patriot.
